    THE REALITY BEHIND THE SYMBOL

    表象背后的现实

    This image evokes a multidimensional world, visually linked here by the flipping of the bottom right corner of the reality that can be seen at the caves, which discovers a second background, made of decomposed light cubes organized in a tridimensional space, linking physical and spiritual energy as part of the same system. This subtler reality lives in, with, and around us just like each and every tiny cell of our bodies is part of an incommensurable bigger being.


    Another symbolic representation of the Bodhisattva has been added. For the past 400 years, the original figure has been posing in the same position, looking at the same spot, in a constant effort to transmit its message. In opposition to this, the second figure exists in the two different realities of the painting. The symbol, just like the last 400 years, will always be looking at the same place, but the reality of the bigger picture of which this symbol is part of will always be dynamic.

     

    对于这件作品,在写实美学表现形式的基础上,我融入了自己对壁画的理解。


    洞窟中的壁画让我想到了多维世界,这是我首先要表现的内容。因此,我用画面的第一层表现了现实世界,而右下角如书页般轻轻翻起,在其下增加了由立体光谱结构编织而成的第二层背景。我认为,我们对现实的认知反映的是我们精神的开化程度,而真实世界更为精妙,与我们共生、共存、无所不在,和我们组成了一个宏观整体,正如一个个微小的细胞组成了高大的人体。


    其次,我增加了一个象征菩萨的女子形象。虽然画中的菩萨形像与传统有所不同,但保留了菩萨典型的发髻、配饰及其性别难辨的特点。400多年来,这尊菩萨在洞窟中保持着同样的姿势,凝视着同一个方向,表达着同样的韵意。与之相对地,我增加了一个跨越在画面中两层背景(现实与真实)之间的女子。我想表达的是,虽然从理性角度来看,两种形象相互区别,但从感性角度来看,两者实为一体,不论古今,禅意恒在,与我们共同演化。


    画面中的另一层蕴意是:400多年来,壁画中的菩萨看似只凝视着一个方向,但我们其实一直在其目光之中。为了表达这一点,我融入了达芬奇首创的面部绘法,让观者能感觉到画中的目光如影随形。不论从哪个位置看过去,画中菩萨的目光都会一直在您身上。


    女子身后的光环意味着启蒙。在佛教和基督教的作品中都可以找到光环这种表现方式,甚至在波斯、希腊和罗马的艺术作品中也能看到表示神圣和启蒙的相同元素。


    而对于光环內的画面,我选择了延续呈现第二层背景(的光谱结构),从而令光环本身更像一个圆形实体,在表现启蒙蕴意的同时,更构成了通往更高维度的窗口。
